Our key texts in English this term are ‘Pugs of the Frozen North’ followed by ‘The Great Kapok Tree’. During English lessons children will have the opportunity to explore a range of written tasks including writing a diary entry, writing a formal and an informal letter, writing a recount of key events using the first person, creating a newspaper report and exploring and writing poetry.
In Maths we will be focussing on: Number and Place Value, mental and formal addition and subtraction,
Multiplication and Division – including times tables and formal methods, Measurements including Measurement of Time.
In Science this term we will be focusing on Sound and then Climate Change. We will learn how to change pitch and loudness as well as making our own musical instruments. During the second half term the Science focus shifts to Climate Change. The children will be learning about how the environment is changing and how this may pose a danger to living things. We will be planning how we can make a positive change to the environment and living things around us.
Our History based topic is The Romans. We will learn about how and why they invaded Britain and order events on a timeline. We will also research how the Romans lived and the impact they have had on Britain. For the second half of the autumn term we will be learning about Rainforests. This will include reflecting upon how climate has such an important influence on landscapes, plants, animals and human activity on Earth.
During our Computing sessions children will be applying their knowledge and understanding of networks, to appreciate the internet as a network which need to be kept secure. They will be given opportunities to explore the World Wide Web and evaluate online content to decide how honest, accurate, or reliable it is. During the second half of the autumn term children will record audio and produce a podcast, which will include editing their work, adding multiple tracks, and opening and saving the audio files.
