At St Paul’s, we recognise that every child is unique and learns in different ways. We aim to ensure that teaching, learning activities and additional support are carefully matched to each child's individual strengths, needs and abilities.
How do we adapt learning to meet your child's needs?
High-quality inclusive teaching: Class teachers adapt their teaching, learning activities and resources to ensure that all children can access the curriculum and make progress.
Ordinarily Available Provision: Staff use Hertfordshire's Ordinarily Available Provision guidance to identify appropriate strategies and remove barriers to learning.
Individualised support: Where a child requires additional support, an Individual Support Plan (ISP) may be developed with specific targets and strategies matched to their needs.
Adapted learning resources: Children may benefit from visual timetables, practical equipment, communication aids, sensory resources, assistive technology or alternative ways of recording their work.
Targeted interventions: Additional individual or small-group support may be provided to develop particular skills, such as reading, writing, mathematics, communication, social interaction or emotional regulation.
Specialist advice: Where appropriate, we seek guidance from external professionals to help us adapt teaching and provision.
Developing independence: Support is planned to encourage children to become increasingly confident and independent learners.
How do we know if the provision is right for your child?
Teachers regularly assess and monitor children's progress to identify what is working well and where further support or adjustments may be needed.
We follow the graduated approach of Assess, Plan, Do, Review to ensure that provision continues to meet individual needs.
Individual Support Plans are reviewed half-termly, and the support provided is adapted as children make progress or their needs change.
Where a child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), the special educational provision specified in the plan is put in place and reviewed alongside their individual progress.
How are parents and children involved?
We value the views of parents and carers and encourage children to share what helps them learn, what they enjoy and what they find difficult. This information helps us plan meaningful and effective support.
Our aim is to ensure that every child can access a broad and balanced curriculum, experience success, develop independence and achieve their full potential.
