How will you help me to support my child's learning?

At St Paul’s, we believe that working closely with parents and carers is essential to helping every child achieve their full potential. We recognise that you know your child best and want to ensure that you feel confident and supported in helping them learn and develop at home.

How will we support you?

  • Regular communication: Class teachers will keep you informed about your child's progress, achievements and areas where additional support may be helpful.

  • Practical advice and strategies: We will share ideas and activities that you can use at home to support your child's learning, communication, confidence and independence.

  • Individual Support Plans (ISPs): Where your child has an ISP, we will discuss their individual targets with you and suggest ways to reinforce these skills at home.

  • Learning resources: Where appropriate, we may provide or recommend resources such as reading materials, visual supports, communication activities or practical learning games.

  • Meetings and reviews: Parents and carers of children receiving SEN Support will have opportunities to discuss their child's progress and support at least three times a year.

  • Specialist advice: Where external professionals are involved, we will help you understand their recommendations and how suggested strategies may be used at home.

  • Signposting to additional support: Our SENCO can provide information about relevant local services, organisations and sources of advice, including Hertfordshire's SEND Local Offer.

How can you support your child's learning at home?

We encourage parents and carers to support learning through everyday activities, such as reading together, playing games, talking about experiences, practising independence and celebrating achievements.

Where appropriate, teachers and the SENCO can suggest simple, manageable activities linked to your child's individual targets. We recognise that home should also be a place for relaxation, play and family time.

Who can I speak to if I need advice?

Your child's class teacher is your first point of contact. You can also arrange to speak with the SENCO if you would like further advice about supporting your child's special educational needs.

Our aim is to build a positive partnership between home and school so that every child receives consistent encouragement, develops confidence and is supported to make progress at their own pace.
