Year 3
Welcome to Year 3's Page
Our class teacher is Miss Dance. Our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Webb.
We hope you find this page useful for keeping up to date with your child's learning in Year 3. We have recently updated our curriculum maps in December 2023 so there may be some variations to the order in which we teach our topics.
Please feel free to use the knowledge organisers to ask your child questions about their learning and whether they know the meanings of any of the vocabulary.
Our recommended reads are chosen from high quality texts that may either be engaging for your child to read or have read to them.

Our learning this term ....
This term, for our English lessons, we will be reading Fantastic Mr Fox. The children will compare and describe the characters from the story, hot seat as the different characters and write a newspaper report. Alongside this, the children will also plan and write an alternative version of the story. This term, we will also be reading and writing poetry to express emotions. Later in the term, we will be studying maps and our local area. This information will help us to produce a non-chronological report (leaflet) about Chipperfield.
In our Maths lessons we will be focusing on mental and formal methods of multiplication (3s, 4s, and 8s) and division, before moving on to solving word problems involving money and measures. After this we will look at statistics, focusing on pictograms and bar graphs. Later in the term, we will look at fractions as well as learning other methods to solve addition, subtraction and multiplication problems.
Our Science is ‘keeping healthy’, we shall be learning how to group different animals according to their diet as well as planning out a healthy and well balanced diet. After this we will be studying the different parts of plants and then investigating what plants need to grow as we move into spring!
Our focus in Geography is sustainability. We will be learning what the word sustainability means and finding out how we can live more sustainably. We will also be learning about different energy sources and analysing data about how much electricity has been used in the UK during different years.
We will use what we have learnt about the growth of plants and flowers to create a dance routine in our PE sessions. In PE, the children will also take part in gymnastics.
In Computing, the children will be creating stop frame animations. We will be combining our Computing and Design and Technology skills when we design the setting and props. We will then film our stop motion animation film using the iPads. We will also be beginning to learn how to code using Scratch.
Our JIGSAW sessions will be focused on setting new hopes and goals for the year ahead. We will then start our ‘healthy me’ topic, looking at how to maintain a healthy lifestyle (including discussing mental health) and why this is important.
