Year 3
Welcome to Year 3's Page
Our class teacher is Miss Dance. Our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Gilmartin.
We hope you find this page useful for keeping up to date with your child's learning in Year 3. We have recently updated our curriculum maps in December 2023 so there may be some variations to the order in which we teach our topics.
Please feel free to use the knowledge organisers to ask your child questions about their learning and whether they know the meanings of any of the vocabulary.
Our recommended reads are chosen from high quality texts that may either be engaging for your child to read or have read to them.

Our learning this term ....
In English, during the first half term, we will be using the book ‘atlas of adventures’ to explore the world. Children will use what they have found out, through reading and internet research, to create a report about a chosen location. During the second half term, we will be using the story ‘The Pebble In My pocket’ to support our learning.
This term, in our Maths lessons, we will be focusing on using division to solve word problems. Children will also begin to use long division. Throughout the summer term the children will develop their knowledge of telling the time including analogue and digital time. We will also look at place value and decimals and use this to support with problem solving, estimating and rounding. Towards the end of the summer term, the children will revise 3D shapes and their properties.
During the first half term, our Science topic is ‘amazing magnets’. Throughout this topic the children will investigate how toy vehicles run on different surfaces and how forces make things move. The children will investigate how magnets attract some materials and not others and use this to group materials. Children will finish our magnets topic by developing a game that uses magnetic forces. During the second half of the summer term, our Science topic is ‘plants’. Within this topic the children will have the opportunity to study a variety of flowers, discover male and female parts of flowers and learn the different functions of these parts. The children will create a show about pollination and seed dispersal.
In our PE sessions we will be exploring striking and field games. The children will also practise their athletic skills ahead of KS2 sports day.
In Computing, the children will be using different software to explore coding on a computer. This will include create a code, fixing and debugging an existing code and creating a game using coding. The children will also record data and learn how to record this effectively using technology.
Our JIGSAW sessions will be focused on relationships. This will include learning strategies for solving friendship issues, treating each other with respect and understanding what makes a good relationship. In our JIGSAW sessions we will also begin to explore changes within ourselves and others and how to deal with these changes.
