The teaching of Mathematics is based on the document ‘Mathematics programmes of study: KS1 and KS2.’ and ‘The Early Years Foundation Stage Profile’.  In addition to these documents, the school uses the ‘Herts for Learning’ sequencing documents and our calculation policy to support planning. From Year 1, all pupils will usually have a dedicated daily mathematics lesson.  Within these lessons there will be a good balance between whole-class work, differentiated group teaching and individual practice.  Our teachers also use every relevant subject to develop pupils’ mathematical fluency and aim to draw purposeful mathematical experience out of a wide range of activities. Our pupils understand the importance of mathematics and are encouraged to be confident in numeracy, developing their reasoning skills in the use of concrete, pictorial and abstract representations and in applying the skills that they learn to problem solving.
